GEI Part of Team Honored with the Nancy Fitzroy Top Innovator in Environment and Safety Award

The team of GEI Consultants, Ameren Corp, and ERM received the Public Utilities Fortnightly Nancy Fitzroy Top Innovator in Environment and Safety Award from the utility-sector journal Public Utilities Fortnightly.

The award celebrates the success of our work developing and implementing the In-Situ Stabilization / Solidification (ISS) remedy for the site. GEI’s Vice President Brandon Teel, Ameren’s Senior Manager of Environmental Services Brian Martin, and ERM’s Partner Dan Wilkens discussed the project scope and impacts along with their respective roles with the editor of the journal.

ISS is an in-place remedy that can increase soil strength and reduce the hydraulic conductivity of underlying soils to great depths. This sustainable alternative lessens the need for deep excavation, disposal and restoration and the labor and costs associated with traditional methods.

GEI provided technical expertise in the development of the ISS approach for the pilot study and project management, project controls, and technical resources for the remainder of the project.

“GEI is grateful to be recognized for the work of our collaborative team of scientists and engineers,” said Brandon. “From the beginning, this effort was defined by strong science, thoughtful collaboration, and a commitment to meaningful environmental progress.”

The Top Innovator in Environment & Safety Award recognizes exceptional projects for improvements in environmental performance and safety in the electric and gas utility industry.
