Terrane Geoscience Joins GEI, Expanding Services for Mining Clients

GEI Consultants has acquired Terrane Geoscience, a 30-person firm specializing in structural geology, rock mechanics, geotechnical, geo-structural engineering, geospatial data services, and soils testing. Terrane is headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and has an office in Fredericton, New Brunswick, strengthening GEI’s presence in Atlantic Canada.

“We’re delighted to welcome Terrane to GEI and to GISI Consulting Group,” says Scott Wallington, Chief Executive Officer at GEI. “Their teams’ specialized mining expertise will help us to support clients around the world. Likewise, offering GEI’s expanded services to existing Terranemining clients will strengthen those existing relationships.”

A “Homecoming”

Terrane Principal Tony Gilman calls this move “a bit of a homecoming.”

“I started my career at GEI in Boston in 2000,” he says, “and while building Terrane, I had in mind at all times GEI’s focus on offering a very high level of technical service.” According to Gilman, GEI shares Terrane’s values of offering client-focused, technically sound engineering and geoscience services across North America and internationally.

“It’s a pleasure to be joining GEI.”

Mining & Minerals

As global demand for critical minerals continues to dominate headlines and geopolitical strategy, mining clients now have access to a full lifecycle of services from across GISI Consulting Group.

“Whether inside or outside the fence—that is, the mining asset itself or the communities and economies that surround it—Terrane’s capabilities bridge the existing offerings of GEI and fellow Consulting Group company Palladium,” explains Palladium Managing Director Llyr Rowlands.

From Terrane’s structural geology and rock mechanics engineering to GEI’s ecological services to Palladium’s inclusive economic growth and stakeholder engagement, mining companies’ needs can be met from exploration to closure.

“Our combined teams are uniquely positioned to help our clients achieve their goals,” Gilman agrees—at every stage.

Local Leadership, Global Expertise

“This is the vision and the power of GISI Consulting Group,” says Group CEO Derek Amidon. “Our Group combines local leadership with global expertise to navigate some of the most complex issues we face as a planet. Our clients think of us first, and we’ll continue to deliver on their needs and exceed their expectations – in part by building out our team with world-class businesses like Terrane.”
